Motability scheme - Financial help

To further support disabled motorists, the Motability scheme offers financial help in the form of a grant to make sure members' needs are fully met when they may otherwise struggle. This could mean a sum to put towards an advance payment, specialist Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), adaptations, or driving lessons.

The amount available is limited and therefore goes to those who are most in need. Applications are means-tested, and any help goes towards the most affordable means of support. Should your application be successful the funds provided may not cover your preferred Motability option if a better-value alternative is available.

If you are thinking of applying for assistance we recommend identifying the most affordable option first to save time. This could mean extending a lease if your current adapted car is still suitable, or considering whether your mobility needs have now changed.

When deciding whether to award financial help the Motability scheme will consider a number of factors, and you can find out more on the scheme's website by clicking here.
