Premium small-car buyers have flocked to the DS3 since it was first launched in 2010. It wore Citroen badges until 2015, when DS was spun off as an independent brand, bringing a subtle facelift in the process.

It’s brilliantly sporty to drive and delivers a high-quality cabin, with stylish and dynamic looks that are neither twee and retro, nor clinical and boring. Funky colours, smart alloy wheels and that telltale sharkfin B-pillar all help it stand out on the road.

It’s a three-door model that’s also offered as a Cabrio model, with a retractable fabric roof for fair weather occasions when you crave the wind in your hair. It’s surprisingly economical for such a performance-oriented car, too, with some diesel-powered models undercutting the magical 100g/km CO2 emissions marker.
