What is Motability?

The Motability scheme is a unique, all-inclusive, affordable way to lease a brand new car, specifically for the benefit of disabled people and their families. The scheme aims to provide worry-free mobility to people with a wide range of disabilities, covering most of your running costs, so you only need to worry about paying for your fuel.

You have a 60,000 mileage allowance over three years, at the end of which you can swap your car for a brand new one. The scheme has many more benefits, including insurance for two named drivers, servicing and maintenance, tyre and windscreen replacement, full RAC breakdown assistance and annual car tax. Also, many adaptations are charged at no extra cost, so you don’t have to worry about being able to afford necessary changes to the car.


Motability cars are split into the three price band options, allowing you to pick a vehicle that fits your budget the best:

  1. Cars that cost less than your weekly mobility allowance, so you keep the difference.
  2. Cars that cost exactly the same as your allowance.
  3. Cars that cost the same as your allowance, plus a one-off Advance Payment.


To be eligible for the DS Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the allowances below and have at least 12 months remaining on the award:

* Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
* Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
* War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
* Armed Forces Independences Payment

What is a Motability Premier Partner?

A Motability Premier Partner dealership will have a minimum of two trained Motability Sales Specialists and two After Sales Specialists based at the dealership. A Premier Partner may offer a home visit service if it is required. However, collection of your car must take place at the dealership to enable you to enter your PIN for the agreement. Premier Partners offer "while you wait" servicing and MOTs by appointment, and will wash and vacuum your car after a service, MOT or any repairs. Premier Partner will also provide you with a courtesy car, when given a minimum of three weeks advance notice. We want to make your visit to us as easy as possible.

What are Adaptations?

Adaptations are devices that can be fitted to a vehicle so that driving is safer and more comfortable, and getting in and out of the car is made easier. There are a number of adaptations available, many for no extra cost that could improve your motoring experience, including adaptations to help with:

  • Speed and steering
  • Stowage
  • Signalling and safety
  • Seating and access

Are they Affordable?

Many adaptations are now available at no extra cost! Costs for all adaptations available through the programme can be found on the Motability adaptation prices page. Prices apply nationwide, and include installation and any maintenance required.
