GETTING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEW REGISTRATION

The first number plate change of the year starts on the 1st March, in this years case 15 so all new cars in the UK will carry the number 15. This will apply after the two first letters of the number plate (which are based on the location in which where you buy the vehicle . The second number plate change of the year will apply on 1st September that will state the same two location letters followed by the new age identifier of 65. The '6' will apply for the second course of the year until 2020, which then will be replaced with a '7'. So in September 2021 will be '71' not to be confused with '61 in 2011.

Being able to calculate the age of your car is important when it comes to estimating how much you will be spending on your car insurance. The current number plate system came into play in September 2001 by which they introduced the 51 plate. For each September during that decade the 5 was in place, followed by the year number. For example in March 2003 the number plates changed to 03 then when it changed in September it became 53.
