Some motorists who would benefit greatly from the Motability scheme may not be able to do so because their mobility allowance doesn't cover the support they need. To assist them, financial help is offered – otherwise known as a grant - which is often used for adaptations, driving lessons, as part of an advance payment or to secure a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).
This funding is intended for those most in need, so for this reason all applications are means-tested. And to make sure as many applicants are helped as possible, the most affordable option to meet an applicant's requirements will be chosen. If you intend to apply, we recommend finding out the most inexpensive option to save time, so that your application has the best chance of being accepted.
The Motability scheme will look at each application individually and consider a number of factors before making a decision. These include the nature of your particular disability and how it affects mobility, the equipment you require, and your financial means, among others. Further information on applying for financial help is available on the scheme website.
